Share Severn Stars’ Captain Laura Malcolm has urged her side to believe in themselves ahead of Saturday’s game against her former side Manchester Thunder. Stars head into the game, at the University of Worcester Arena, after heavy back-to-back defeats away at Team Bath and league high-flyers Wasps. But Malcolm insists that her side has the talent and skills to be able to compete with Thunder, who sit third in the Vitality Netball Superleague. Malcolm said: “I think everybody just needs to understand what they bring to the team and just be calm when they’re on court. “We can do it. We know we can do it because we’ve proved that in other games this season. “It’s just about having belief in ourselves and bringing that on court for the full 60 minutes.” Goal defence Jodie Gibson and goal shooter Eleanor Cardwell are also likely to feature against their former club. After toppling reigning champions and Final Four contenders Surrey Storm at home, Stars suffered defeats on the road, with a humbling 59-33 away defeat at Team Bath before valiantly losing 62-46 at Wasps. And Malcolm is expecting another difficult test for her side on Saturday. “Every game in this league is tough,” she said. “It’s been a really great season. Everybody has beaten everybody and that’s what we want from our league; for everything to be competitive. “It’ll be another tough game, but that’s what we’d expect from any team in the league.” Remaining tickets for Saturday’s clash at the University of Worcester Arena (centre-pass at 7.30pm) are available at www.severnstars.co.uk/fixturestickets.
