Share 2019 Vitality Netball Superleague champion, Joyce Mvula, has been called up to the Malawi squad for the Vitality Netball World Cup later this month. Mvula, who plays for Manchester Thunder, has had an exceptional season finishing third for goals scored and with a shooting percentage of 90%. Her average of 34 goals per game helped secure Manchester Thunder a place in the play-offs and then a semi-final win over Team Bath Netball. In the Grand Final against Wasps Netball, Mvula was a key figure for her side throughout the game until an injury forced her off in the fourth quarter. Her precision and skills in the attacking third were valuable tools for Thunder on their journey to claim their VNSL title. Her partnership with Kathryn Turner resulted in Thunder finishing as the highest scorers in the league with a total of 1,225 goals. Mvula also won the Sky Sports Fans’ Player of the Year Award, finishing ahead of Nat Panagarry (Loughborough Lightning) and Sophie Drakeford-Lewis (Team Bath Netball). You can see Mvula in action along with her Malawian teammates in the very first game of the Vitality Netball World Cup when they take on New Zealand on Friday 12th July.
