Bath v Storm 28.01.19 R3

Sigi Burger (London Pulse), Zanele Vimbela (Strathclyde Sirens) and Khanyisa Chawane (Team Bath) have all been named in the South African squad that will compete at the Vitality Nations Cup in January.

South Africa – known as The SPAR Proteas – will travel to England for fixtures against the Vitality Roses, current World Cup winners New Zealand and Jamaica. The sides play in a round-robin competition in Nottingham, Birmingham and London before the top two will face each other in the final, third will then take on fourth for placings. The final and third-place game will be played at the Copper Box Arena in London.

Since taking over as coach from Norma Plummer earlier this year, Dorette Badenhorst has been working with the players and had the opportunity to compete on the world level having just finished competing at the SPAR Challenge International Netball Series against the Vitality Roses.

Vitality Netball Superleague fans will also see a familiar face in Bongi Msomi and Shadine van der Merwe who played for Wasps and Surrey Storm respectively in 2019.

SPAR Proteas Head Coach, Dorette Badenhorst said about the tournament, “I am looking forward to an exciting competition between top countries in the world. There are no easy games here just challenges. There is a good vibe in the team and with Karla Pretorius back and Bongi as captain everyone can be excited”
