Netball Super League | Jodie Gibson back at Saracens Mavericks for 2021

Jodie Gibson has signed a new contract extension with Saracens Mavericks ahead of the start of the upcoming Vitality Netball Superleague (VNSL) season in 2021.

The new deal will see the defender extend her stay at Hertfordshire Sports Village to a second successive season after signing for Mavericks in October 2019.

Gibson joined the Hertfordshire outfit from Severn Stars where she was the club’s first-ever signing. Previously, she had represented Loughborough Lightning and Manchester Thunder.

Due to injury, the 27-year-old wasn’t able to get out on court for her new side during the short-lived 2020 season and will be determined to a positive debut in the black and red dress in February.

Saracens Mavericks had a flying start to the 2020 campaign after a strong victory against Severn Stars, winning two of their three matches in total.

At international level, Jodie Gibson has now collected a quarter century of Vitality Roses caps after making her senior debut against Jamaica in 2013.

Strong performances in Netball Europe and the Malawi Series, where she played every quarter, led to her selection for the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast.

Gibson ended her first major international competition with England’s first gold at the Commonwealth Games when they beat hosts Australia in a close-fought final.

After recovering from injury, Jodie Gibson has been back training with the Vitality Roses under Head Coach Jess Thirlby.

The Bury-born player is currently in New Zealand ready to take on the Silver Ferns in the three-match Cadbury Test Series later this month.

This news comes after the announcement that fellow England international Kadeen Corbin will also be playing for Mavericks in 2021.
