Share Strathclyde Sirens have announced that Towera Vinkhumbo* and Helen Taylor join the Strathclyde Sirens side for the 2021 season. The recruitment came following the news of Zanele Vimbela who was ruled out of the campaign due to rupturing her ACL in the recent Telkom Netball League South Africa, and with Claire Maxwell expecting her first child in 2021. Strathclyde Sirens Technical Director Karen Atkinson soon stepped in to bring on the brilliant Vinkhumbo and Taylor to strengthen the Scottish side. Vinkhumbo said,”’I am so grateful and I also thank God, that am joining Strathclyde Sirens for the 2021 season. It’s great to part of the Sirens family, and I’m excited to be back playing in the Vitality Netball Super League.” Taylor said, “I’m excited to be surrounded by such high-class and inspiring athletes to learn and grow from, not just as a netballer but as a person too!” Technical Director Karen Atkinson said, “It is always a tough task when you have to recruit outside of the designated window, but to have secured two players of the calibre of Towera and Helen is fantastic for the squad. Towera had an impressive start to the 2020 season for Stars. She is athletic and a natural ball winner. We are looking forward to her arrival in Glasgow to begin work with the squad” “Helen will be joining us at the end of January and will add some extra depth to our midcourt. She has been instrumental in the success of her state league team, West Coast Warriors, in Perth and we are excited to have her in our environment” “Having spoken to both Towera and Helen on zoom and had a lot of communication with them, they are clearly both fantastic people who are excited by the challenge and the prospect of contributing to our team success. They are definitely team-first players which is the type of environment we have been building at Sirens. We can’t wait for them to join us”. *Towera’s recruitment subject to Visa clearance You can view all the 2021 squads here.
