Share General View during the Vitality Super League build up Studio 001, Wakefield, England on 12th January 2021. Following a breach of Vitality Netball Superleague (VNSL) rules by Celtic Dragons in round two of the 2021 season, the Disciplinary Committee has now announced its decision on the penalty the club will face. During a fixture against Surrey Storm on 22 February, Celtic Dragons breached Section C, rule 1.1.3.1 of the VNSL rules, whereby more than one foreign player was on the court at a specific time within the attacking (GS or GA) positions. As a result of this breach, Celtic Dragons have incurred a £500 fine, as well as a deduction of three league points as a suspended sanction which will be applied should Celtic Dragons breach this Rule again during the 2021 season. The Disciplinary Committee considered several factors when determining the level of the sanction issued for this breach including the duration that the breach lasted (39 seconds), that there was no competitive advantage gained from the breach and the circumstance of the match outcome. All breaches of the VNSL rules are taken very seriously and sanctions will be issued in accordance with the rules. Celtic Dragons Director of Netball Tania Hoffman said: “Unfortunately an error was made when our 2 overseas players were put into the same area of the court for a short period of time. We recognise that was in breach of the VNSL rules and accept the sanction accordingly.” You can view the league table here.
