Strathclyde Sirens welcome back goal shooter Emma Barrie for the 2022 Vitality Netball Superleague (VNSL) season. The 19-year-old is already entering her third season in a Sirens dress and was a key part in the club’s best-ever finish since their formation in 2017, finishing in sixth place and competing for the top four. Barrie started the majority of games as their star goal shooter and scored 418 goals in 20 matches with a success rate of 87.4 per cent, putting her up there with the best in the league despite her tender age. The teenager also has a wealth of international experience for the Scottish Thistles and was a member of their 2019 Vitality Netball World Cup squad in Liverpool. “I’m really excited to be back with Sirens and looking forward to seeing how we can build and improve on last season’s performances,” she said. “I got a lot more game time than expected last season which was really beneficial for me as a player and this season I’m just looking to try improve on those performance and try be more consistent across all games.” Head Coach, Lesley MacDonald, is excited to see Emma continue to progress each year: “Emma is an exciting young talent that both the Sirens Tribe and Thistle Army have watched develop over the last few years. “Last season’s VNSL was a break through season for her, as she showed enormous development and precision with each match. This season I know she will continue to develop as we look to add new dimensions to her game that will push her to be one of the best shooters in the league.” Barrie becomes Strathclyde Sirens’ second signing of the 2022 Signing Window after Towera Vinkhumbo.
