Surrey Storm have announced the signing of Northern Ireland’s Emma Magee for the 2022 Vitality Netball Superleague (VNSL) season.

In her first season with Storm, the 23-year-old put in some spectacular performances across the season and displayed her international experience alongside international teammate Niamh Cooper.

The goal attack picked up an injury towards the end of the 2021 campaign but still managed 59 goals. She has been working hard in pre-season to recover and has featured for her country over the summer.

Magee – who also plays GAA with Antrim – caught the eye of Mikki Austin back in 2019 during her international performances such as at the 2019 Vitality Netball World Cup.

Delighted to have signed, Magee said: “” am so excited and absolutely honored to play for Storm again this year. It is another massive opportunity I just can’t wait to get started.

“Unfortunately there were quite a few minor injuries last season. This summer there has been a big focus on getting strong and fit again, ready for a tough pre-season.”

Magee – who’s sister Michelle played at Leeds Rhinos Netball last term – is in contention to play at the Commonwealth Games next year alongside Cooper. The shooter believes this domestic season could be ‘priceless’ in contributing to her and her country’s performance at the tournament.

“Playing Superleague this season will be priceless. The exposure of the physicality, intensity and competitiveness week in and week out will be such good preparation for the Commonwealth Games,” she said.

Surrey Storm Head Coach Mikki Austin commented: “I’m really looking forward to having Emma Magee back resigned with Surrey Storm.

“Emma is such a dynamic goal attack, she gives us such a threat within that shooting circle and after she had a season that was interrupted  by injury last year we are really looking forward to her getting going in the 2022 season.”

Magee becomes Surrey Storm’s fifth signing of the 2022 Signing Window after Mikki Austin, Yasmin Parsons, Niamh Cooper and Frankie Wells. You can see the Storm squad as it develops here.
