(Photo by Morgan Harlow/Getty Images) Cardiff Dragons have today announced their defensive unit for the upcoming season, welcoming back 2019 Dragons player Lucy Howells alongside three players set to make their Netball Super League (NSL) debut. Lucy Howells Debuting in 2019, Lucy Howells makes a welcome return to the Netball Super League in 2024. The versatile defender can play across all three defensive positions (GK/GD/WD). Howells joins the squad after enjoying a successful summer with the Welsh Feathers in Cape Town, displaying some solid performances against top-ranking opposition. Nansi Kuti After gaining experience with the Cardiff Dragons last year as a training associate, Nansi has been elevated to the squad for the 2024 season. Alongside Howells, Nansi also featured at this summer’s Netball World Cup in Cape Town, where she gained her first international cap. Nansi can also bolster Dragons’ attacking options, with her ability to play in the Goal Shooter position, making her a versatile and valuable asset for the Franchise. Leah Middleton Swapping duck egg blue for green Leah Middleton makes the move from Surrey Storm to Cardiff for 2024. Leah played a key role for Surrey Storm last season, helping them secure a spot in the final four and into the semi-finals for the first time since 2016. Leah notched up an impressive 18 interceptions, 42 deflections, and 44 turnovers for the season. Jacqui Newton Jacqui joins the Netball Super League for the first time from Melbourne, Australia. No stranger to playing on big stages Jacqui played for Collingwood Magpies last season, having previously played for the Melbourne Vixens in the Suncorp Super Netball league and the Victorian Fury in the ANL league. Jacqui plays in both the Goal Defence and Goal Keeper positions and brings a wealth of exciting experience to this Dragons side. You can keep up to date with all the 2024 squads and signings here.
