Share NIC Leeds Rhinos Netball have announced Bethany Brittain as their new captain for the 2025 Netball Super League season. Brittain, who joined the club at the end of last season from Surrey Storm, is the fifth captain in the club’s history, following in the footsteps of Jade Clarke, Fi Toner, Vicki Oyesola, Nia Jones and Geva Mentor. The mid-courter played for Strathclyde Sirens for three seasons and was their co-captain in 2023 before returning to Surrey Storm last season, having previously played in their Pathway. New head coach Lauren Palmer also confirmed that she will be supported by a leadership group of Vitality Roses legend Geva Mentor, Malawian Netball international Joyce Mvula and Rosie Harris, who returns to the Rhinos this season having been part of the club’s first-ever squad in their 2021 debut season. Speaking about being appointed as captain Brittain said: “It is a big thing, and I’m pleased that they trust me with this job and obviously with the sport going professional and being the first Rhinos captain under a professional sport is something I don’t take lightly. It’s quite a new group but I think that’s actually brought us together and made us a more close-knit group. “I hope they are enjoying it. My style as captain is being honest but hopefully also creating an honest and safe space for them and the girls can trust in me and lean on me. So I hope I can do the role justice. I want the best for this group and to raise the standards and to also stay consistent with my own performances and be a player that the whole team can look to.” NIC Leeds Rhinos Netball head coach, Lauren Palmer added: “Beth just stood up from the offset as a great leader. Both on and off the court, she brings a real sense of professionalism with everything and all the girls respect her. She knows when to be that shoulder to lean on me, with that nurturing side. Then she also knows when to be serious and when you listen to her in team talks and in training, she will stop and correct stuff and she demands that quality from everyone. I think for us she’s just an outright true leader and I think she’s going to be really good in that space.” NIC Rhinos Netball play their first home game of the Netball Super League on Friday 14th March against Birmingham Panthers at the Cannon Medical Arena. Before that though they are playing in the Netball Super Cup on Saturday 8 March.
