Pulse announce plans to promote netball to London’s blind and visually impaired

Vitality Netball Superleague’s London Pulse have announced a partnership with a London-based charity in order to promote access to netball for the capital’s blind and visually impaired.

Pulse will work closely with Metro Blind Sport – a charity established in 1973 – to ensure the blind or visually impaired can ‘immerse themselves in the game of netball as a participant and fan’.

As a result, the club has granted free access to London Pulse’s home matches for blind or visually impaired fans to enjoy the sport with the support of audio description and trained volunteer support.

Blind or visually impaired fans will also be given the opportunity to take part in netball skills sessions in London with London Pulse Community Lead Lisa Brown who will have completed visual awareness training and completed an online training module run by British Blind Sport.

Pulse volunteers will also have training to enable them to attend the sessions and to understand how best to support the athletes attending. Further details on how to access these sessions will be announced shortly.

Anyone interested in booking tickets for a home game with visual impairment can email your details to lisa.brown@londonpulsenetball.com and she will contact you.

Sam Bird, CEO and Director of Netball, London Pulse said: “This is an initiative that I’m truly excited about.

“Those of us that love netball, want to give the opportunity to as many people as possible to watch and enjoy our game as well. We are grateful to Martin Symcox from Metro Blind Sport and the British Blind Society for taking the time to work with us to make this happen.”

Martin Symcox, CEO, Metro Blind Sport said: “Having the opportunity to work with London’s Vitality Netball Superleague Club provides our blind and partially sighted members with a fantastic opportunity to immerse themselves in the game of netball as a participant and fan.

“We are grateful to London Pulse for working alongside us to provide inclusive netball pathways and we look forward to working closely with Sam and the team to develop the game.”
