Strathclyde Sirens have announced the return of Nicola McCleery to the Strathclyde Sirens squad for the 2021 Vitality Netball Superleague season.

McCleery, who can play at centre or wing attack, is entering her fifth consecutive year with the Scottish club.

The 25-year-old made her debut with the side during the 2017 season and has gone onto become a staple in the starting VII ever since.

In 2020, the mid-courter started all three games for Sirens under new Head Coach Lesley MacDonald before the campaign’s premature conclusion.

Alongside her four VNSL seasons, McCleery has also amassed a great deal of international experience. After a successful spell at youth level which included travelling to a Netball World Youth Cup, she made her senior debut for Scotland in 2016.

She has since represented the Thistles at the European Championships, the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast and the 2019 Vitality Netball World Cup in Liverpool last summer.

Nicola McCleery said: “Five years playing for this team have come and gone so quickly, as have the past few months. Although it’s been a difficult time for everyone, I’m so excited to be playing for this squad again and getting back out on court to train with the girls.

“With this season’s team, I’m really excited to see what we can produce on court having built that momentum last season and twinning it with some newbies coming into the team to add that strength and depth to the squad. It’s going to be a great season!”

This is Sirens’ seventh signing of the 2021 signing window. The announcement of McCleery’s retention follows the news that captain Gia Abernethy, Claire Maxwell, Niamh McCall, Taylor Cullen, Emily Nicholl, and Lynsey Gallagher.

As with all their signings, the news broke first to those with the brand new Strathclyde Sirens App. Watch the full reveal video and get news on signings before anyone else by downloading here.
