Netball Super League | Jo Trip pens new Saracens Mavericks contract ahead of 2021

New Zealand-born Jo Trip has penned a new deal with Saracens Mavericks after a prosperous start to her stay in Hertfordshire.

Trip has been a popular figure at Hertfordshire Sports Village thanks to her consistent high-level performances.

Due to a fine debut season at Mavericks, she was named in the 2019 Vitality Netball Superleague All Star VII as voted for by clubs.

Trip was on fine form in the black and red dress once again at the start of the 2020 season, starting all three fixtures at goal defence.

The 30-year-old joined the club from Surrey Storm in 2019. She spent two years in Surrey after two seasons with Loughborough Lightning, her first Vitality Netball Superleague (VNSL) side.

Prior to her five years in the VNSL, Trip started her career in the southern hemisphere. She joined Lightning from ANZ Championship side Splice Construction Magic, having previously played for Canterbury Tactix.

The New Zealander has been a popular Mavericks recruit and her ability to play on and off the body, leads to countless interceptions and steals for the defence. She will again take her place in a formidable unit which will lead from the back.

She said: “I am extremely excited to be joining Saracens Mavericks for my third season. After only playing three games in my second year, I am grateful to be continuing my journey with Mavs and hope this 2020/2021 season is one to remember for all the right reasons.”

Trip’s re-signing follows the earlier announcements that captain Sasha Corbin, long-serving Steph Collard and Roses Future Beth Ecuyer-Dale, Chloe Essam, Georgia Lees, and NPL graduate Dani McFarlane would both be returning.

Earlier this week, news broke that ‘rookies’ Bella Baylis and Britney Clarke would be making the step up to the VNSL with Aliyah Zaranyika also recommitting after making her debut at the Season Opener in 2020.

Last week, Mavericks made it known that a handful of Vitality Roses in Kadeen Corbin, Jodie Gibson, Razia Quashie and Gabby Marshall would also be staying in Hertfordshire next term.
