The Malawi international arrived from Severn Stars for the 2021 campaign and will once again put on the black and red of Sirens next term. Vinkhumbo was on the division’s standout defenders last season and helped the Scottish outfit to their best-ever finish of sixth, qualifying for this year’s Fast5 All-Stars for the first time. At the end of her first season in the UK, no player got more interceptions (55) than Vinkhumbo. She also finished second for turnovers (86) and ninth for deflections with 53. After a superb season, she earned recognition when her fellow professionals voted her the Players’ Player of the Season and she gained a spot in the VNSL All Star VII at the VNSL Awards in June 2021. Now, the 30-year-old will return to Sirens for 2022 and experience a home crowd at the Emirates Arena for the first time. “I am super excited to resign for Sirens and thankful for being granted my wish to play for sirens again for the upcoming season,” she said. “I can’t wait to meet everyone on court and I’m looking forward to having fun with the girls and to step up from where we left last season.” Strathclyde Sirens Head Coach, Lesley MacDonald, said: “We are delighted to have Towera back for her second season. She is an incredible individual who had a standout season in 2021, having a phenomenal impact in our defensive end. “Her wealth of knowledge and experience is a tremendous asset to our team, and we know this season she will continue to grow her defensive partnerships, along with her growing leadership to ensure she has another outstanding season for us.” Vinkhumbo becomes Sirens’ first signing of the 2022 Signing Window. Like all 11 VNSL sides, Sirens have until 15 October to name their remaining players.
