Vitality Netball Super League

Wasps Netball have completed their squad recruitment ahead of the new Vitality Netball Superleague season with the signing of an up-and-coming star from the West Midlands.

Lucy Parize, 18, from Sutton Coldfield, was originally one of 60 people trying out for Wasps Netball’s training squad last week at trials held at Warwick University and impressed that much that she has become Director of Netball Tamsin Greenway’s twelfth and final signing.

A young exciting prospect that plays goal attack or goal shooter, Lucy was a stand-out player for the West Midlands Warriors in the Netball Performance League (NPL) last season, and is currently in the final year of her A-level studies at Bishop Vesey’s Grammar School, in Sutton Coldfield.

Her performances in the NPL also saw her join up with Warriors’ U21 Super League squad to compete at the 2016 U21 September Showdown in Worcester.

Wasps Director of Netball Tamsin Greenway said: “I’m thrilled that our squad is now complete and a local West Midlands girl has got that final spot.

“After watching Lucy shine we wanted to give her the opportunity to test herself at the top level and begin the journey at Wasps.

“It was my favorite phone call to make as Lucy was over the moon and I know how important it is for this area to have an elite team on their doorstep where the next batch of West Midlands players can make their mark.

“Finding the talent and helping develop players in the region is really important to us and over the next few seasons that will be a real focus. We hosted our trials last week at Warwick University to find training partners for the squad and it was great to see how many players showed up, we played matches all evening and both Mel and I were impressed with the standard and enthusiasm of the players in the area. “

Lucy took up netball at the age of eight and later entered the England pathway system, starting in the regional academy and progressing to the England Academy – leading to her invitation to join the Under-19s tour to Jamaica in August.

She was one of 14 players selected for the five match test series, as the England team secured an impressive 3-2 series victory against Jamaica U21s.

Lucy has been a West Midlands player for the past four years and says she is delighted to be involved with Wasps Netball in the region’s first Vitality Netball Superleague team.

She said: “When Wasps Netball were announced as a new SuperLeague club, I was very excited and that excitement only increased when Tamsin Greenway joined up. So, attending the trials was a real no-brainer.

“I feel really lucky to be joining such a great set-up, with all the great signings we’ve made. I know it is going to be an amazing season and I hope that Wasps will go all the way and be crowned 2017 Superleague champions.”

On Sunday, experience Wasps Netball in the Fan Village at Wasps vs Harlequins Aviva Premiership rugby match at the Ricoh Arena, where you can give netball a go and meet some of the team, including new signing Lucy Parize. For more information, visit wasps.co.uk
