Netball Super League | Corbin, Essam, Lees, Marshall leave Saracens Mavericks

Kadeen Corbin, Chloe Essam, Georgia Lees and Gabby Marshall have all left Saracens Mavericks, the club have announced today.

The four players have all been long-term fixtures of the Mavericks squad but the 2022 campaign will be their last in a Black & Red dress as the Hertfordshire side enter a new era.

Mavericks – who appointed Camilla Buchanan as Head Coach and Tamsin Greenway as Head of Strategic Performance this summer – said in a statement: “The departing players have all played a huge role in the club over the past few seasons and will now be embarking on new challenges following their time at Saracens Mavericks.

“With the 2022 season now complete, they will be leaving the club and we would like to personally thank them for their contribution, commitment and dedication shown during their time with us.”

Corbin spent six years of her netball career at Mavericks and helped the club reach its last VNSL Grand final appearance in 2015 as well as aiding the team to reach the 2021 Fast5 Netball All-Stars Championship final.

The former England shooter and Commonwealth Games winner had a strong final season in Hertfordshire – in both circles – and was also a ‘big personality’ on and off the court.

Marshall, meanwhile, joined Saracens Mavericks for the 2018 season and the former Vitality Rose has played a key role in the team over the past few years. The mid-courter has battled back from several injuries during her time with the club showcasing her great work ethic, proving again in 2022 how talented she is.

Lees left local rivals Surrey Storm to join Saracens Mavericks back in 2019. The wing attack has been a creative spark in a black & red dress since her arrival as she balances her on court duties with working for the NHS.

Finally, Essam originally came through the Loughborough Lightning Pathway programme and spent time at both Lightning and Wasps gaining senior experience before signing for Saracens Mavericks. A young and talented GA, Essam really stepped up in 2022 due to injuries to the likes of Ine-Mari Venter.

“As this group of fantastic players and incredible women move on to new ventures we will look after the special memories that they created here at Saracens Mavericks,” said Head Coach Camilla Buchanan.

“They will be greatly missed but it is not goodbye, just simply see you later as we wish them all the best at their new clubs. Thank you for everything that each one of you have done for our club, you will always be a Maverick.”
