Netball Super League | Commonwealth Games: Social netball on day five

Time flies when you are having fun and day five of the Commonwealth Games is already over.

Today saw England qualify for the semi-finals with victory over Uganda while Wales and Scotland suffered defeats at the hands of Australia and Jamaica respectively.

The last match of Tuesday saw Trinidad & Tobago captain Shaquanda Greene-Noel battle to an 80-24 loss to New Zealand.

It was fitting to end with Greene-Noel as she is the undisputed queen of netball Twitter and today we are rounding up the best of social media so far.

England and Uganda battle it out

The Games started off with Surrey Storm’s Peace Proscovia being selected as Uganda’s flag bearer

And today the skipper was in place to lead the SheCranes’ fight against England in the first half, scoring eight of their 35 goals as she played 26 intense minutes, and her side has had plenty of support in the crowd.

Down the other end of the court, Eleanor Cardwell of Manchester Thunder was up to her usual tricks, sinking 27 goals as England won 56-35, and has provided lots more entertainment too.

Shooter Cardwell’s fine performances may be because of her very special cheerleader in the crowd.

Shaquanda leads the way

A player who perhaps needs no introduction, but deserve lots of Tweets about her is Celtic Dragons’ Greene-Noel who has been stoic in defence for Trinidad & Tobago all while living her best life.

It was a true captain’s performance for the defender against New Zealand putting in more gains, intercepts and deflections than anyone else on her team.

Australia share the love

The Australia Diamonds have been formidable on the court, winning all of their games so far, but have shown the true meaning of the friendly Games as they have supported their opponents.

That also includes a certain former Australia coach now heading up London Pulse as performance director.

Today Scotland lost out 78-34 to Jamaica with Iona Christian providing the most assists for the Thistles.

Meanwhile, it was Wales’ turn to take on Australia, falling to a 79-33 defeat, win or lose though, you can rely on them to keep dancing.

Famous faces

Denise Lewis, former Commonwealth Games heptathlon champion and current Team England president visited the Roses earlier in the tournament.
