Netball Super League | Surrey Storm retain Gilbert Top Scorer Proscovia Peace

Bartercard Surrey Storm have announced the re-signing of Ugandan icon Proscovia Peace for the 2023 Vitality Netball Superleague (VNSL) campaign.

Peace made her return to the Superleague in emphatic fashion last season as she helped propel her new side up the table, climbing from tenth in 2021 to seventh in 2022.

The 32-year-old provided significant firepower in the shooting circle and subsequently scored 853 goals with a shot accuracy of 94 per cent across her 20 games last season.

This resulted in her finished top of the Gilbert Top Scorer leaderboard for the third time in her career having picked up the Gilbert Golden Shot with Loughborough Lightning in both 2017 and 2018.

At the #VNSLAwards, the Uganda international was also inducted into the All Star VII in the goal shooter position thanks to her performances in Surrey. She would also take-home Players’ Player as well as Best and Fairest at the Storm End of Season Awards Dinner.

This off-season, Peace led her nation Team Uganda out for the Commonwealth Games as captain of the country as well as captaining the She Cranes. Breaking more records, Proscovia propelled her team to their highest finish thus far taking fifth place after a valiant win over South Africa.

Reloaded and ready to go again with Storm, Peace commented: “I am humbled for another year with storm. It is an opportunity I always treasure.

“I am looking forward to playing with my amazing teammates in front of the beautiful crowd we have here at Surrey Sports Park.”

Head Coach Mikki Austin commented: “Re-signing Proscovia Peace to represent Surrey Storm into 2023 was one of, if not, the most critical pieces to our puzzle. She was formidable last season, showcasing her world class ability on and off the netball court and at times, was simply unplayable.

“We are thrilled that Peace will continue in our club colours, and we look forward to build on the inroads made as well as her league leading goal tally.”
