Lees rejoins Mavericks as an additional training partner

Georgia Lees has rejoined Saracens Mavericks as a Wasps Additional Training Partner for the 2023 Netball Super League season.

Lees originally joined Mavericks in 2019 and had departed to Coventry for the upcoming season but will return to the Hertfordshire club following Wasps’ departure from the league.

The 28-year-old wing attack will be familiar to plenty of her teammates, but will join some new faces including Kira Rothwell and Ellie Kelk.

“I’m so grateful to Mavericks for reaching out and offering me a training partner contract for the season,” Lees said.

“I was devastated to find out that Wasps Netball had folded and felt lost as to what came next. So, to have Mavericks reach out to me to offer reassurance and somewhere to train is something I will always be grateful for.

“It’s been great being back in the mix and seeing some old faces. It’s been nice to build some new relationships with those new faces within the squad as well.

Lees made 19 appearances as Saracens finished in fifth place for the second consecutive season in 2022 and will be looking to return the club to the top four for the first time since 2016.

She added: “The team is looking great and I’m really enjoying the training environment.

“This season will look slightly different for me, but I’m looking forward to getting stuck in and supporting the squad as much as I can with the goal of reaching the top four this season.”

Saracens Mavericks have also confirmed Darcy Griffin as a training associate for the new season which gets underway on 11 February with the Season Opener in Nottingham.
