Share Powell-Davies will make the move to Dragons for the new season Celtic Dragons have announced that Wales international and former Wasps player Ella Powell-Davies will join the club for the 2023 season. The defender will replace Leila Thomas who was ruled out of next year’s campaign on medical grounds. Powell-Davies had been part of the Wasps set-up since 2020 and will now join the Welsh side following the news that the Coventry side would not be competing in the 2023 Netball Super League. The 23-year-old had a standout international season with Wales, competing in the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham and most recently helping Wales qualify for next year’s World Cup in Cape Town. Powell-Davies said: “I still can’t quite believe this has happened. The last couple of months have been a complete whirlwind. “I can’t quite put into words how grateful I am for this opportunity with Celtic Dragons, and I can’t thank Dannii Titmuss-Morris [head coach] and the team enough for their support through such a tough time. “Now it’s time to focus on my new journey with my new team and I am so ready for it.” How good is it seeing these in green 🐉 Great pre-season run-out against @thundernetball ⛈️ and @SirensNetball 🚨 Can’t wait for January for our pre-season match against @SevernStars 🌟 Game 1 – 🐉 37 – 42 🚨 Game 2 – ⛈️ 51 – 35 🐉#greenarmy pic.twitter.com/LlpEq8HJ1P — Celtic Dragons (@celticdragons_) December 12, 2022 Powell-Davies started her NSL career at Severn Stars in 2017, before moving to Wasps three years later, where she remained for the past two seasons. The defender’s move to Dragons will see her unite with Welsh compatriots Clare Jones, Chelsea Beard and Phillipa Yarranton. Titmuss-Morris said: “Ella is a wonderful addition to the group. “She has only been training with us a short time and is already showing what she is capable of, hard-working and committed to the pursuit of excellence. “To be able to add an athlete of Ella’s calibre to the group further strengthens our ambitions for the 2023 NSL season.” Dragons begin their 2023 season campaign against Manchester Thunder at the Season Opener in Nottingham on 11 February.
