Where to Watch: Round 19

We’re nearing the end of the regular Netball Super League season with just eight games remaining before the Final Four do battle.

This weekend we have three live games with some of the brightest stars from the African continent in action. We may also find out who will play who on Friday 9 June in the semi-finals.

Make sure you’re following the NSL on TwitterInstagram and TikTok for updates and exclusive behind-the-scenes content, while our YouTube channel is the place to go for highlights if you miss anything.

Strathclyde Sirens vs. Celtic Dragons

Kicking off the weekend we have a battle of the home nations as Strathclyde Sirens host Celtic Dragons.

The last time these two sides met in Round 8 just one goal separated them in a game that saw seven-time NSL champion Rachel Dunn make her return. Sirens tried to peel away in the final quarter but Dragons clawed their way back, only to be denied from making a late attack by the buzzer.

It could be a hard night for the two attacking ends with both sides being protected by two of the top performing defenders in the league. The tenacious Towera Vinkhumbo has registered the most intercepts this season meanwhile her counterpart from the Green Army Shaquanda Greene-Noel stands on top of the table for turnovers, three ahead of Vinkhumbo.

Jill McIntosh took charge in April and Dragons have tightened up their defence and closed the gap on their opponents. Five of the six games she has overseen have been decided by five or fewer goals with top-four side Surrey Storm edging a one-goal game in Round 17.

Watch Strathclyde Sirens vs. Celtic Dragons on Friday Night Netball live from 19.00 on Sky Sports Action and YouTube (UK only).

Manchester Thunder vs. Saracens Mavericks

Three of South Africa’s named Netball World Cup squad are split amongst these two sides.

Lenize Potgieter, now second in the Gilbert Top Scorer leaderboard, will be heading to her third World Cup, alongside Manchester Thunder teammate Shadine van der Merwe and Saracens MavericksIne-Mari Venter for whom this will be their second.

Potgieter remains the most clinical shooter in the league, sitting on a shooting accuracy of 97% having missed just 22 shots from 695 attempts, something that may be pivotal for the reigning champions when the semi-finals arrive.

Despite a couple of nervy victories against Leeds Rhinos and Team Bath, Thunder returned to their clinical best against Severn Stars last week, surpassing 70 goals for the first time since Round 7.

Their opponents this weekend come into this game in a rich vein of form having won four of their last six with all 12 points coming away from home.

Sasha Corbin was unable to see out her final home game for Mavericks with a win but the four-time NSL winner will be hoping she can end the season on a high and guide her side to a fifth place finish.

Watch Thunder take on Mavericks live on Sky Sports YouTube (UK only) on Saturday from 17.00.

Severn Stars vs. Leeds Rhinos

Straight after the action at Belle Vue, we have Severn Stars vs. Leeds Rhinos.

After a difficult start to the season with changes in the playing squad after the Season Opener, Rhinos look to have settled and have risen from the foot of the table. Their sights are now set on pushing up a couple more places before the end of the campaign.

Last weekend, Rhinos overturned an 11-goal deficit at half-time to claim victory in their final home game against Bath. Paige Reed came on to make an impact and claimed Gilbert Player of the Match. She’ll be hoping to do something similar against her former side.

In Round 8 Stars claimed their first win over Rhinos in five attempts, a victory that took them past their points total from last season.

Jo Trip‘s side have received many plaudits for their performances this year with several players including Sigi Burger, facing her old club, enjoying their best campaigns in the Netball Super League.

Watch the final game of Round 19 on Saturday at 19.00, live on Sky Sports YouTube (UK only).
