Share Cerys Finn was shocked to be called up to the Strathclyde Sirens team for the Netball Super League 2024 season, but is grabbing the opportunity with both hands. In her second year of studying International Relations, Politics and Social Policy at Strathclyde University, a call up to Sirens was not something she saw coming. Despite having played international netball for Scotland, Finn is new to the domestic league and is looking forward to the challenge that lies ahead. “It’s so exciting to be part of the 12 and a completely new experience,” she said. “Prior to this, it wasn’t even on my radar that I was up for selection for this team so when the email came through, I was so confused as to what was going on! “But it’s super exciting, such a great opportunity and one that I’m really thankful to have.” Sirens are Supercharged & we are ready to go💥 We can’t wait to be back at the Emirates Arena playing in front of our incredible Sirens Tribe! 🚨Strathclyde Sirens vs Cardiff Dragons 📆15th of March ⏰19:30 Get your tickets here – https://t.co/C0zy6iwmIq#SirensTribe #NewWave pic.twitter.com/hChQru819S — Strathclyde Sirens (@SirensNetball) January 29, 2024 While Finn will be stepping on court as a Siren for the first time this year, she has experienced the Glasgow crowd before, having been part of it as a youngster. Joining the Thistles set-up over the past year has given her valuable international experience which she hopes to draw on as she embarks on this season. She said: “I’m very lucky to have got exposure at the World Cup, which has set me up with a bit more confidence for this season. “It’s a really big year for me in terms of learning. I’m very new and any exposure I get, I’m really lucky to have. “I’ve got great experienced players behind me – Towera [Vinkhumbo] and Emily [Nicholl]. And some new players like Millie [Sanders] and Hannah [Williams] who bring in their own new styles, ideas and experience. “I just have to take on as much information as I can this season. It’s been great so far. I’m not sure my brain can take any more!” View this post on Instagram A post shared by 🙂 (@cerys_finn) Looking ahead to the season, Finn is excited with a new-look Sirens team, which isn’t a full team of Scottish players. She said: “We’ve got our own expectations, but having this fresh squad is great. It means we’re all starting on the same page and we can build together from the bottom. “Another new thing about Sirens this year is that it isn’t a team of Scottish players. “That makes it different to the Thistles environment, which is good so that we can challenge each other in different ways.” Finn is excited to be joining the Sirens alongside Zara Flett, someone she has played with since she was 13 years old. Flett hails from Orkney and took her first steps with Sirens in last season’s Fast5 before joining the NSL squad for the 2024 campaign. She said: “We’ve experienced a lot of our big moments in netball together. Coming into this squad, we’ve helped each other get through it. It’s so nice for me to have her around.” Despite having played netball from a young age, Finn likes to keep her netball separate to the rest of her university life. She said: “I live south of Edinburgh in the middle of nowhere, with some uni friends. “Anyone will tell you – I’m the least ‘netball, netball’ person there is. I love my life outside of netball as much as I love my life within netball!” To keep up with the latest news, make sure to follow the @NetballSL on Twitter, Instagram and TikTok, Netball Super League on Facebook and LinkedIn, and subscribe to our newsletter.
