Netball Super League | Where to Watch: Round 3

As we look ahead to the third round of the Netball Super League (NSL) in 2024, read on to find out all the vital information about where to watch and follow the action over the next few days.

Round two of the NSL delivered some big wins for Loughborough Lightning and Severn Stars who sit in the top two spots on the table going into round three.

This week, fans can watch both teams take on their next opponents in their bids to remain unbeaten.

Team Bath host Severn Stars on BBC Sport on Friday 1 March, whilst Loughborough Lightning travel to London Pulse on Saturday 2 March, broadcast live on Sky Sports.

Team Bath v Severn Stars – First Centre Pass at 19:30, Friday 1 March

Severn Stars made a statement with their round two performance, defeating Strathclyde Sirens, 67-38 in their largest ever win over the Scottish side. Player-coach Jo Trip will be looking for her team to continue their impressive start to the season as they travel to Team Bath Arena. Team Bath on the other hand have something to prove after falling short against a dominant Loughborough Lightning in their round two match up. Bath managed to keep the score line close for much of the opening quarter, but a 23-8 second quarter in favour of Lightning allowed the reigning champions to pull away. Asha Francis will be looking for a strong response from her squad in their first home match of the season.

Team Bath player to watch: Bethan Dyke is Team Bath’s captain this year and as one of the most experienced players in this youthful side, she will need to use her leadership skills to ensure Team Bath are able to play against the pressure that Stars will be trying to put on them. Dyke played for Severn Stars for three seasons before moving to Team Bath in the 2023 season, so will be keen to put out a strong performance against her former side.

Severn Stars player to watch: Jess Shaw has established herself as a vital part of Severn Stars’ attacking end and has been a stand-out player early on in the competition. She was selected in Katharine Merry’s Team of the Week from round two in the wing attack position after notching up 37 feeds in Stars’ win over Strathclyde Sirens, meaning that she now sits in fourth place on the league leaderboard for feeds. She’ll be keen to continue this dominance against Team Bath’s defence on Friday night.

London Pulse v Loughborough Lightning – First Centre Pass at 19:00, Saturday 2 March

Loughborough Lightning travel to London Pulse on Saturday in a 2023 Grand Final rematch that isn’t to be missed. With over 3,300 tickets sold so far, this is London Pulse’s biggest ever home game at the Copper Box Arena and it’s no surprise that thousands of fans want to enjoy this game live, as the two finalists from last year’s NSL come face-to-face for the first time this season at the very same venue they last met at.

London Pulse player to watch: Funmi Fadoju has had a stellar start to the season, topping the league leaderboards for both deflections and gains. With an incredible 30 deflections, she is sitting on 17 more than Loughborough Lightning’s Nicola Smith who is in second place with 13. Pulse will be relying on Funmi using her trademark dynamism and elevation to win ball against a clinical and composed Loughborough side.

Loughborough Lightning player to watch: Alice Harvey put out a strong defensive performance in Loughborough’s 83-46 win over Team Bath in round two. She is also building an exciting new combination with South African defender Nicola Smith, which will be fascinating to watch as they take on the Pulse attackers in the circle on Saturday.

The rest of the round

Across the rest of the round there are many more exciting matches to keep an eye on. Leeds Rhinos and Cardiff Dragons meet in Sheffield at 3pm on Saturday 2 March, with both sides still looking for their first win of the season. Rhinos will be keen to put on a show for fans in their first home game of the season and Dragons, who pushed Thunder to the wire last week, will be looking to put out a consistent 60-minute performance.

Later in the day at 5pm, Manchester Thunder welcome fans back to Belle Vue Arena for their first home game of the season against Strathclyde Sirens who will be looking to bounce back from a disappointing loss against Stars in round two.

Finally, after defeat to London Pulse last week, Surrey Storm face another local rival as Saracens Mavericks travel to Surrey Sports Park for what is sure to be an enticing battle at 6pm on Saturday. Legendary shooter Proscovia Peace played her first minutes back on court after returning from maternity leave in round two and fans will be eager to see her back again, this time against the Mavericks’ star-studded defensive line-up.
