Georgie Heath’s Team of the Week

After another stunning weekend of netball, seven names from across the league have been chosen for this week’s team.

“As a shooter myself, I can appreciate that the shooters so often take all the plaudits but for my team of the week, the trickiest thing was trying to narrow down my defence. Some really strong work defending in the circle and Jasmine Brown was the human version of a brick wall this week.”

Ine-Marì Venter – Saracens Mavericks

Ine-Marì Venter of Saracens Mavericks starts us off in the goal shooter position this week. After a draw against London Pulse on Saturday, Venter shone in the shooting circle, scoring at 88% across the game. Picking up two deflections and two rebounds across the game, she impressed Heath with her accurate scoring and tenacity. In what concluded as a draw against semi-finalists London Pulse, Ventre stayed calm and collected in her shooting circle, slotting more away for her side when given the chance.

Sammy Ngubane – Strathclyde Sirens

Goal attack sees Strathclyde Sirens’ Sammy Ngubane come into the mix. Another feature in the Team of the Week, Ngubane has had a standout season in Glasgow, with her final game finishing in style, shooting at 91%. Taking 39 goals out of the 51 goals scored, Heath picked up the hard work shown by the attacker. Read more about how Sammy made her way into the NSL and how she settled into Sirens life.

Nat Metcalf – Manchester Thunder

Taking the wing attack bib this week is Nat Metcalf of Manchester Thunder. Making 32 feeds to her shooting counterparts and collecting one interception, one deflection, one pick up and two gains, the workhorse assisted her side to yet another win of the season. They now look towards hosting their home semi-final against Severn Stars on Saturday.

Nat Panagarry – Loughborough Lightning

Centre sees Nat Panagarry from Loughborough Lightning come into the selection this week. After 150 appearances for her club on Saturday, the centre made 34 feeds, one interception, two deflections, one pick-up and two gains in their final regular-round fixture against Severn Stars. Lightning also look ahead to the weekend when they will host their home semi-final against London Pulse. The captain also picked up the Experience Kissimmee Player of the Match award for her stunning performance.

Imogen Allison – Manchester Thunder

Wing defence sees Nat Metcalf’s teammate Imogen Allison come into the team this week. A big week for her and her side will not shadow her performance against Leeds Rhinos last Saturday as she made 22 feeds, two interceptions, four deflections, two pick-ups and three gains. Her sixth appearance in Team of the Week, Allison has certainly made her mark for the Manchester side this season.

The wing defence will look to mimic this performance against Stars on Saturday. Make sure to get your tickets!

Funmi Fadoju makes yet another appearance in the Team of the Week; 12 times so far this season! In their draw against Mavericks on Saturday, Fadoju took six deflections, two interceptions, and two gains to push her side to the end of the game. Their eyes are now set on reaching their second consecutive Grand Final, but will Loughborough Lightning get in their way?

Jas Brown – Severn Stars

Jas Brown from Severn Stars takes the goal keeper bib after a standout performance on Saturday against Lightning. Taking home three deflections, gains and pick-ups, her work with Jo Trip was outstanding on Saturday.
