Netball Super League | Gibson Loving Life at Stars

England international Jodie Gibson says that she’s enjoying life under the tutelage of Coach Mo’onia Gerrard as Severn Stars prepare for a long trip to face Glasgow-based Sirens on Monday (May 15th).

Stars have endured a difficult run having played all of the top five Vitality Netball Superleague teams in their last six games, picking up two wins.

But the Stars defender, who won a Superleague title during her time at hometown club Manchester Thunder, said she made the right decision in making the move to the University of Worcester Arena.

She said: “I love it here. The girls are amazing, Mo’onia Gerrard and Sam Bird’s coaching is amazing and their input is phenomenal.

“I think it helps that we’ve got really good team cohesion.

“I’ve really enjoyed moving over to Severn Stars and I think I have learnt so much from Mo’onia and Sam.”

Stars face sixth-placed Sirens away from home at the Emirates Arena, having beaten the Scottish side, who are fellow newcomers to this year’s Superleague, 54-45 at the University of Worcester Arena back in March.

“Of course, last time we faced Sirens we did take the win so we’re hoping to do that again,” said Gibson.

“Hopefully, we’ll come away with that win because we are playing well and we are training well. It’s just frustrating to not be able to come away with the win when we are putting in the effort.”

Gibson believes inconsistency has prevented eight-placed Stars from picking up more points this season.

She added: “It’s been a really tough run, but we are building each game. It’s really good to see glimpses of the good netball that we play, but we’re too inconsistent.

“I just want to see us put a good full 60-minute performance together.

“There’s been too many times where we’ve had a good 13 minutes of a quarter and then for the last two minutes teams are coming back at us and that’s where we’re losing it.

“As games have gone on, we’ve developed more grit. I feel like we’re now starting to work together as a team.

“It’s good to see that we’re able to put in those gritty performances, but we’re just way too inconsistent.

“We need to make sure we focus on our game plan, and make sure we continue doing what we’re doing well across the four quarters.”

After facing Sirens on Monday (7pm), Stars then return to the University of Worcester Arena on Friday May 19th to face Team Northumbria (7.30pm).
