Netball Super League | Wasps’ Greenway: “We have still got a lot of work to do”

Wasps netball director Tamsin Greenway says her team are still focused on improving – despite having already racked up 11 straight wins in the Vitality Netball Superleague.

Greenway’s side hold a six-point advantage at the top of the table with every other team having lost at least three matches this season.

Now, the league leaders travel to Surrey Storm – the last team to secure back-to-back league titles – on Friday May 18 (7.30pm centre-pass) looking to make it 12 out of 12.

The Guildford-based side won the Superleague in 2015 and 2016, when they were under the stewardship of Greenway before she joined Wasps.

Friday’s hosts have registered three wins this season and currently sit in sixth position, making a win this Friday crucial to their hopes of staying in the race for a top four spot.

A consecutive league title for the black-and-gold team this would therefore mark Greenway’s fourth successive triumph, but she knows there is still room for improvement.

“We have still got a lot of work to do, particularly in terms of structure and our work in the attacking end,” the netball director said.

“Our focus has very much been on us and it has stayed like that in preparing for the Surrey Storm game. We need to get our own game right and we’re really looking forward to another test and big challenge away from home.

“I’m expecting Storm to bring it to us. They are coming off the back of some good performances and always have a fantastic home atmosphere which makes it difficult for visiting teams.

“I’m sure they will be looking to play with no fear against us.”

Greenway’s team opened their 2018 campaign against Storm, running out 68-43 winners at the Ricoh in February.

Surrey are one of only four teams to inflict a defeat on Wasps in their short history but the black and gold side still hold the overall advantage – winning two of three meetings.

Wasps’ next home game sees them face Loughborough Lightning on Saturday, May 26 (7pm centre-pass).
