Netball Super League | Wasps have turned corner says Flanagan

Wasps Netball star Amy Flanagan believes her side have turned the corner after re-finding their winning touch.

The Black and Golds will host Team Bath at Ricoh Arena on Saturday 6 April (6pm centre-pass) as the battle for a top-four spot continues in the Vitality Netball Superleague.

Wasps had the chance to reflect, after a run of two defeats, and put their preparation into practice on the court with a convincing winning display against London Pulse.

Flanagan, now in her third season at Wasps, thinks her team is heading firmly in the right direction ahead of the final six games of the season.

Flanagan, who plays at Centre or Wing Defence, said: “It’s important to learn from your losses, to see what we can improve and how to bounce back.

“We narrowed it down to looking at those crunch points in the matches when we’re letting our concentration slip or not starting the game as well as we should be.

“I think that showed against Pulse and we put in a really strong performance from start to finish.

“It’s also been a case of recognising our errors and taking responsibility for them on the court.

“There is a real confidence flowing through the team and we know that we’re on the right track.

“In the last losses we played some really strong netball, there have just been little blips in the final-quarter that have let us down.

“I think you could tell we were enjoying it on Sunday and are at our best when we play with confidence.”

The fixture will see second-placed Wasps take on third-placed Bath, with both sides coming into the game locked on 27 points.

Wasps came away victors in their first encounter earlier this season, winning by 11 goals, but Bath have since had star players return to their line-up and are back in contention for a top-four finish.

She said: “Bath are always a team that bring the quality, they’re strong in every position across the court.

“They were missing key players when we last played them, so we’ll definitely need to raise our game to come away with all three points.

“Serena Guthrie is back now. She’s such a workhouse and a leader in the attack. Stopping her will be key, and be important if we want to take the win.”
