Share Surrey Storm returned to winning ways with a 63-51 win away at Saracens Mavericks. Mikki Austin's side were dealt a blow last time out by a 57-49 defeat at the hands of Manchester Thunder, but were back to their flowing best in their first of two Round 13 fixtures. Energised by a recent victory and a vocal home crowd, the Black and Reds started the contest with a bang, playing fast, full-court netball that challenged their top four opponents. After an end-to-end start the Black and Reds gained a two-goal advantage over the visitors, but Austin’s side found a way back on top to go into the first break with a narrow lead. 💬 “At these stage every single 3 points we can secure is critical” Head coach @mikki_austin pleased with the bounce back performance this afternoon #NSL2023 pic.twitter.com/HZqRjJQG1w — Bartercard Surrey Storm (@SurreyStorm) April 22, 2023 Storm then gained a foothold in the second quarter, extending their lead to go in five to the good at the break before pulling away after half-time to produce a comfortable margin. Mavericks rotated their squad to good effect but a close final 15 wasn’t enough to catch the Duck Egg Blue. Sophie Drakeford-Lewis was the star for Storm, producing a Player of the Match performance at goal attack with 25 goals, one intercept, three deflections, and two turnovers in a typically all-action display.
