Player Bio
Amy Carter is Manchester Thunder’s leader, on and off the court.
The mid-courter was named captain ahead of the 2025 season, with Carter determined to step up and lead by example.
She has certainly done that on court in recent seasons, steadily establishing herself as one of the leading centres in the Netball Super League since returning from an ACL injury that caused her to miss the entirety of the 2022 campaign.
Since then, she has gone from strength to strength in both Thunder yellow and Roses red, with Carter a travelling reserve for the 2023 Netball World Cup.
That followed a strong season for Thunder, where she helped her side to the Netball Super League play-offs, before going one better in 2024 and finishing runners-up in the Grand Final.
Carter, who is able to play at centre, wing defence, and wing attack, made her Super League debut in 2018 after coming through the Thunder pathway and was part of the 2019 title-winning squad before forging a place as a regular starter in the 2021 season.
Carter was first included in the Roses Futures Programme in 2018 and made her senior Vitality Roses debut in 2020, having represented her country at Under-17, Under-19, and Under-21 level.
Carter balances her netball with her job as a doctor and she is set to finish her foundation year training in 2025 after studying medicine at the University of Manchester.
She said: “I have really enjoyed my dual career so far. When I have a focus on one, I have a distraction from the other. It just keeps my mind ticking over. I am not the type of person who likes routine, I like doing lots of different things.”
Carter began her netball career at Macclesfield Netball Club before progressing at Tameside Netball Club.
