Player Bio

Ella Bowen is on a mission to start her NIC Leeds Rhinos career with a bang.

The versatile defender boasts English and Welsh heritage and earned a call-up to the Roses Academy at the tender age of 15 before featuring as part of the squads that won Under-17 Netball Europe in early 2019 and Under-21 Europe Netball in 2021.

In 2022, Bowen made her maiden Netball Super League bow for Loughborough Lightning when she took to the court against London Pulse, a year removed from earning Player of the Season honours with the Under-19 side.

The Barnard Castle native moved on to Manchester Thunder ahead of the 2023 campaign, and it was there that she reached a half-century of appearances in the Netball Super League.

She was part of the squad that earned a third-place finish in 2023 before topping the table in 2024, going on to finish runners-up in the Grand Final.

She then made the move to Rhinos ahead of the 2025 season, where she will combine with England legend Geva Mentor and Jess Haynes in the defensive circle.

Internationally, Bowen was named to her first senior Vitality Roses overseas tour squad for the Taini Jamison Trophy in 2023 and earned bronze at the Fast World Series in New Zealand in the same year.

She was included in the Roses Futures programme for 2024-25.

Bowen set up her own netball coaching company, TransformNET, in 2024 with the goal of providing greater opportunities to players in the north east.

Away from the action, Bowen counts mountaineering, cycling and golf among her favourite hobbies.

She studied Sport and Exercise Science at Nottingham Trent University, and graduated in 2024.
