Player Bio
Elle McDonald’s netball journey has taken her from Australia to Leeds and now a second season at LexisNexis Cardiff Dragons.
The Leigh native first took up the sport aged eight when she moved from Greater Manchester to Australia.
McDonald, who can play across the mid court, first played netball on English shores in 2023 when she joined Leeds Rhinos.
She was instantly installed in a position of leadership, taking on the vice-captaincy at Rhinos and has been bestowed with that honour alongside Leah Middleton for Dragons’ 2025 season.
McDonald joined Dragons for the 2024 season and quickly established herself as a key player as they finished eighth in the table.
Her professional career began with the Melbourne Vixens in Australia’s Suncorp Super Netball.
She was brought into the Vixens’ wider hub before taking up a place in the full squad.
A move to the Adelaide Thunderbirds followed in 2021 before Leeds Rhinos came calling.
England called McDonald up 2022 and she has since represented the Roses across the world.
McDonald has taken a step back from the full-time Roses programme for the 2024-25 season but will be expecting to be a significant contributing force for Dragons.
She said: “I’m looking forward to everything being new and exciting. We’ve got new teams, new players, new coaches and even new rules so it will be super crazy but in a really fun and good way.”
