Player Bio

Ellie Rattu is a mid-court dynamo ready to spearhead London Mavericks on and off the court.

Known for her work rate and prowess at controlling the centre, the mid-courter will be determined to lead from the front after assuming the captaincy for the 2025 season.

“I’m excited to step forward with them in this new team and in this new era as well,” she said. “It feels exciting, and I can’t wait to get back with the group.

The Bedford-native joined the Mavericks from London Pulse where she made her NSL debut in 2021 and was part of the 2023 side that finished as runners-up to Loughborough Lightning.

Rattu first played netball at the age of nine and progressed up the England pathway, earning selection for the Under-17, Under-19 and Under-21 squads throughout her youth career.

She has previously taken on leadership duties as vice-captain for the Under-19 team that toured Australia and New Zealand.

Rattu received her first call up to the England A team for the 2021 Vitality Roses Reunited Series and achieved her first senior cap at the 2022 Vitality Netball International Series against Uganda.

Rattu has since gone on to become a key part of Jess Thirlby’s Vitality Roses squad, earning regular call-ups to the senior squad.

In her time away from netball, Rattu volunteers with her church to help vulnerable people in her local community by providing food and amenities.
In 2023, Rattu organised a trainer exchange to help provide netball trainers for those less able to access new footwear throughout east London.

She said: "Being involved in the church community is about how can we serve the people that need help and that’s always been a real thing at the forefront of our lives and has also carried on into my personal life now I don’t live with my parents anymore, it is something I would like to continue.”

Rattu has a degree in biomedical sciences from the University of Birmingham and worked as a teaching assistant before joining the Roses programme in 2022.
