Shadine van der Merwe is a highly-accomplished player who operates at either goal keeper or goal defence, where her agility and defensive instincts come to the fore.
Van der Merwe honed her skills in the Netball South Africa Premier League before moving to the NSL in 2019 when she signed for Surrey Storm.
She spent one season in the southeast of England before moving to Australia to play for Suncoast Lightning.
She returned after two seasons Down Under, joining Manchester Thunder in 2022. Van der Merwe signed for two-time defending champions Loughborough Lightning in 2025 where she will be looking to help her new teammates create history.
She represented her country at the 2019 Netball World Cup, where South Africa finished fourth, and has 70 caps to date. Van der Merwe’s playing style is defined by her intense work ethic and ability to shut down her opponents.
