Player Bio

Sigi Burger is one of the most prolific shooters in the Netball Super League.

At 190cm tall, Burger is a standout target in the NSL but the South African also offers an all-round game in the circle with strong combination play.

The 29-year-old is also ultra-reliable under the post, shooting at 95% for Severn Stars in 2024 as she helped the franchise reach the play-offs.

Burger scored 767 goals – her highest tally in six NSL seasons – putting her second in the overall scoring charts.

It marked the second of two successful seasons at Stars for Burger, with the South African finding her groove in Worcester after previous spells at Surrey Storm, London Pulse and NIC Leeds Rhinos.

The South African formed a strong relationship with Stars head coach Jo Trip, and was one of Trip’s first signings at new franchise Birmingham Panthers ahead of the 2025 NSL season.

Burger first arrived in England with Storm in 2018, before moving to Pulse where she became a regular fixture in 2021.

A move to Rhinos followed in 2022, where she was the starting shooter and scored 531 goals.

But it was at Stars that Burger truly found her home in the NSL after admitting to struggling with her shooting in years prior.

“I couldn’t shoot for the past few years, I got this mental block,” she revealed. “The thing I could always do the best growing up was shoot. You gave me a ball, I’d put it in no stress.

“Then to go through a stage where I couldn’t pull a shot off because I was too scared to shoot, it’s like having your super strength taken away.

“Jo just said ‘turn to post, put it up, you’ve got this, if you miss it’s not the end of the world’.”

Burger has also represented South Africa on the international stage, winning gold at the World University Netball Championships in 2016 and representing the Proteas at both the 2018 Commonwealth Games and 2019 Netball World Cup.
